Water in Winter
12/11/2023 (Permalink)
In an environment where the weather is constantly fluctuating between temperatures ranging from the 10s to the 40s, the occurrence of sporadic snowfall, melting snow, and subsequent freezing is a common challenge. These variations can pose potential threats to your property, leading to water intrusions through inadequately sealed areas like the roof, walls, windows, or even from leaking appliances or broken pipes.
Should you notice any signs of water damage, regardless of their apparent severity, it is essential to promptly address the issue. Water and moisture-related problems, whether visible or concealed behind insulation or within wall surfaces, have the potential to harbor bacteria, foster mold growth, induce rot, emit odors, or cause other unseen damages. Regardless of the magnitude of the problem, reaching out to our professionals for a complimentary initial assessment and estimate is strongly recommended.
Prioritizing safety during water cleanup is crucial. If feasible, take steps to prevent further damage while waiting for our professional team's arrival. In cases where self-intervention is not practical, our team will act promptly to:
- Identify the source and type of water.
- Measure temperature and humidity for drying analysis.
- Survey the extent of damage and inspect the premises.
- Perform emergency water extraction.
- Apply necessary treatments.
- Employ drying equipment and monitor the drying process.
Throughout the water remediation process, we work in collaboration with you and your insurance company, should you have initiated a claim. Remember, it is imperative not to let water of any type linger; give us a call, and we will be there promptly to assist!

Do You Know How To Fix A Leaky Sink?
6/28/2022 (Permalink)
Discovering water somewhere you don’t want in your house can be a huge shock. Whether it’s flooding in the bathroom, kitchen, or somewhere else, water in a home environment can lead to damage. The thought may cause some homeowners to panic. However, remain calm and follow these simple steps in order to reduce potential damage and prepare for water damage repair.
1. Shut Off the Water to Your House
You want to ensure that no further damage from flooding occurs, so you need to stop the water completely before doing anything else. Shutting off the main water to the house is the only way to guarantee that no more water comes from the sink leak, so be sure you know where in your house to go in order to do so.
2. Use a mop and rags to clean up if possible
While it may be tempting to do this first, if you don’t shut off the water, you’ll just have more water to clean before you even finish. Use a mop and rags to soak up the excess water, and also be sure to remove any electronics and bright colored objects that could stain, such as magazines.
3. Look at Your Insurance
If you have homeowner’s insurance, you may be covered for any work that needs to be done, such as kitchen repair, in order to fix water damage. This can be highly beneficial financially and should be checked before making any calls out to repairmen.
4. Find a Restoration Service for Help
Water damage can lead to parts of the house not easily managed, so working with a restoration service is your best bet to ensuring that everything is taken care of properly. Not only can they repair any leaks to stop them, but they also can manage the replacements needed for any damaged wood, carpet, etc.
Being a homeowner can lead to stress if you find flooding from one of your sinks, but rest assured, if you handle things carefully, you’ll be able to get through the situation just fine. So give us a call! We are faster to any disaster and are ready to get you back to "Like it never even happened."

Water Damage In Your Kitchen Can Really Slow You Down
6/3/2022 (Permalink)
SERVPRO was called out to assess water damage at a home. It was discovered that a refrigerator had a leak from a water supply line to the ice maker. This led to a slow leak that went for days without being found. Upon arrival of the SERVPRO professional, it was determined that the beautiful hardwood floor was beyond repair.
In the photo you can see that the floor has buckling. SERVPRO worked with the home owner and adjuster to develop an action plan to mitigate the damage. In this case, it required the affected hardwood flooring to be tore out and replaced with new. It also required that all continuous hardwood flooring be sanded and refinished.
The water damage started in the kitchen but because it was not discovered right away it affected room underneath the kitchen. There was drywall and cabinets that were affected. SERVPRO brought in fans and dehumidifiers to dry the structure. If you have water damage, call SERVPRO as we have trained professionals to handle this type of loss.
We are faster to any disaster and ready to help get things back to "Like it never even happened."
Water Damage Knows No Limits On Destruction

If a flood occurs and affects you, call SERVPRO of West Kalamazoo. Even minor floods have potential to cause major damage.
Floods are one of the most common and widespread natural disasters in the United States.
There is always potential for flood damage no matter where you live. According to the American Red Cross floods cause more damage in the United States every year than any other weather related disaster. The American Red Cross offers these flood safety tips:
-Stay away from floodwaters. If you come up on a flowing stream where water is above your ankles, stop, turn around and go another way. Six inches of swiftly moving water can sweep you off of your feet.
-If you approach a flooded road while driving, turn around and go another way. If you are caught on a flooded road and waters are riding rapidly around you, get out of the car quickly and move to higher ground. Most cars can be swept away by less than two feet of moving water.
-Keep children out of the water. They are curious and often lack judgment about running water or contaminated water.
If a flood occurs and affects you, call SERVPRO of West Kalamazoo. Even minor floods have potential to cause major damage.

Continually forgetting to fix it, and then putting it off when you do remember, can also cause further complications, such as mold and rot. The best thing to do for your home when you find a leak is to fix it immediately. Doing so leaves less room for damage to occur.
Accidents happen, and it is essential that upon discovering water damage inside your home, you take action as soon as possible.
